Separate the need from the product

Money has a job. Working capital covers the operating cycle. Equipment financing is tied to a machine. Real estate financing is tied to a property. Acquisition financing is tied to a purchase of a company. Naming the job prevents a product from being sold into the wrong hole.

Insurance is not a substitute for the cash a risk requires. It is coverage of a named exposure: property, liability, people, or systems. The useful question is which loss you are trying to survive, and what the policy actually pays.

The books are the record those decisions stand on. If the record is late, incomplete, or understood by only one person, fix that before you treat a valuation or a loan package as solid.
