Name the operating problem before you hire for it

By GROFINEX Insights

“We need to be more efficient” describes a mood. Cost that is too high, work that waits, work that is done twice, and a step only one person understands are four different problems. They do not share a remedy.

Write the symptom in one sentence and the place it shows up: a vendor bill, a queue, a repeated error, an owner who cannot take a week away. Then write the result you want in the same concrete terms.

Procurement, process, and people are often tangled. You can still choose a first service. Changing a vendor does not fix a process that has no owner. Hiring does not fix a task that should not exist.

A useful engagement ends with a decision the company can keep after the advisors leave: what stops, what is measured, and who is responsible on a normal week.
