GUIDE

How to sell a business

The decisions that come before a listing: what is for sale, who may know, and what a preliminary range is not.

Decide what is actually for sale

A sale can be the company, selected assets, or the company plus real estate. Those are different documents and different buyers. Write that choice down before you talk about a price.

This page does not list the company. A preliminary range on the sell form is not an appraisal and not a guaranteed price.

Keep the circle small until you choose otherwise

Employees and customers do not need a public announcement to let you look at a range. Public pages on this site do not show your name or your figures.

The useful next step is a confidential range, then a decision: wait, prepare, or talk. You do not have to list.

Questions

Do I have to hire a broker to use the range?

No. The range is a starting conversation. A broker is a separate choice.

Will the business be posted online?

Not from the preliminary form. Nothing is announced until you decide to go to market.
